TOPIO Summer School 2026

Interdisciplinary and Participatory Landscape Assessment for Evidence-Based Landscape Restoration (Rome/Monte Cairo, Italy 2026)

The TOPIO Summer School 2026 will take place from Tuesday 14 to Friday 17 July 2026, opening at the Botanic Garden of Rome and continuing in Terelle (Frosinone), on Monte Cairo, Italy. Organized by Sapienza Università di Roma together with the Municipality of Terelle and the TOPIO consortium, the programme combines topical lectures on landscape restoration practices in the Mediterranean, a specialised lecture on the role of landscape observatories and digital tools for community engagement, a field visit to Monte Cairo to explore landscape context and environmental pressures, and participatory workshops with local residents on capturing landscape change and mapping public and private land parcels. The week opens with the public "Aperiscience" event and closes with a TOPIO project meeting in Terelle.

Second TOPIO Autumn School

TOPIO Autumn School, Specialised Lecture and Workshop (Chamusca, Portugal 2025)

The second Autumn School, Specialised Lecture and Workshop of TOPIO will take place at the Landscape Observatory of Chamusca, Portugal, from Tuesday 7 to Friday 10 October 2025. Organized by Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon and Casal do Gavião do Meio, the program will explore and exchange theories and concepts related to landscape ecology, local landscape observatories, and participatory field applications with local communities. The sessions will address the impacts of energy transition on landscapes, methodological approaches for community involvement, and the role of landscape observatories in mobilizing citizens.

First TOPIO Autumn School

TOPIO Autumn School, Specialised Lecture and Workshop (Ghent autumn 2024)

The first Autumn School, Specialised Lecture and Workshop of TOPIO will be organised in Ghent from Monday 21 to Thursday 24 October 2024. The aim of this week is to focus, discuss and exchange experiences and methodological approaches in landscape character assessment, including the introduction of the characterisation methodology that will be applied in TOPIO. As such, the topic of the first intensive week will be dedicated to work package 5 "Landscape Character Assessment”. The main objective of Autumn School, Specialised Lecture and Workshop is that the partners of the TOPIO project can perform the landscape character assessment for the different case studies.
